Is intentional self-deception moral? Is it simply ignorance or can it be necessary in certain situations? Can self-deception mess up your sense of ethics?

I don't know about moral. I think it's justifiable. I don't think it's the right thing to do.
People self-deceive when they believe there are no other options, or do not wish to deal with the other options, or maybe, there really are no other options (like if you are in solitary confinement and can't get out). Most of the time it is ignorance.
Yes, it can mess with your sense of ethics because when you self-deceive, you are often not doing what feels best to you. You are going against your own ethics. You are forcing a viewpoint on yourself.

It's pretty sick, but people do it.
